Moritz Hübel

University of Rostock

Dr. Hübel is a research associate at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics in Rostock and leader of the working group Energy System Simulations. During his studies on Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems at University of Rostock from 2006 to 2011 he has continuously worked on establishing a strong connection between academic research and industry application of scientific methods. He has been working for different power plant operators from 2009 to 2012. In 2016 he finished his PhD thesis on power plant simulation and optimization. The results of his work have initiated important modernization projects on different power plants. Since 2012 he works part time as a research engineer and team leader with the research center of combustion and thermodynamics (FVTR GmbH), providing simulation services to commercial customers.
In his academic career, Huebel has published several papers at national and international conferences and journals and gained recognition by different research awards from ASME Power Division, PowerGen Europe, Technical University Dresden and University of Rostock. He holds lectures on fundamental and advanced thermodynamics as well as on energy systems and simulation.
Dr. Huebel has supervised numerous BSc and MSc students and currently guiding 3 PhD students in his working group. He is a reviewer for several international journals and holds a position as a chair of the ASME student paper competition.
